I've recently become obsessed with All-Star Western, a comic book title produced by DC Comics in 1970 that ran 71 issues.

The first 11 issues ran with this title. They contain a mixture of new stories and reprints of very old ones by the likes of Carmen Infantino, Neal Adams, Gil Kane, Joe Kubert, Frank Frazetta and Nick Cardy. The first few had new covers by Neal Adams and then Tony DeZuniga (who I didn't realize had such lovely pencils!)

The series was renamed Weird Western Tales at issue 12. Some things of note:

#10 = Jonah Hex's first appearance (drawn by DeZuniga)
#12-13 = new Neal Adams work
#14 = Alex Thoth story
#17- 38 = mostly Jonah Hex stories
#39 = 1st Scalphunter and the title remained mostly about him til the end of the series.
#48 = 1st Cinnamon appearance.
#60 = Scalphunter story entitled "The Gangs of Old New York" (curious if it shares any materials with the movie Gangs of New York).

I'll probably stick with just finding issues 1-15

I have alot of catching up to do on here. Been too busy to fill in the last couple of weeks. So, what have I got to say. WELL! I hit the Toronto Comicon with [livejournal.com profile] pers previous to last weekend.

We were happy go lucky volunteers. See? (Note my awesome Communist Party t-shirt that all feared to comment on b/c they had to stare at my breasts to see the picture!

We helped Paradise Comics set up their booth and then sorta did alot of running around and admission and guarding the boring Green Room. I blew more money than I should have well before the show had even begun! I did get a splash of absolutely exquisite Wonder Woman issues from the first series including this gem. It was from the same guy as last year. We talked about silver age WW for a bit and later, when I was talking to his buddy, who had the next table over, the guy told me that he'd been told that my knowledge has improved a great deal in the last year. Now what the fuck does that mean? I think it was supposed to be a compliment maybe but I am not sure.

I'm happy to report that I conquered my fear of Dave Sim. I begged [livejournal.com profile] pers to accompany me, and I went up to his table, stood in line and got progressively more nervous and finally spoke to him, thanking him for the sketch that [livejournal.com profile] jcoville went up and got for me last year b/c I was too chickenshit to do it myself. He was actually really really nice. He remembered the incident and said that he had almost made Jamie take him to me so he could say hi. :O I probably would have died honestly. I ended up being too busy with my volunteering to actually get any sketches this year. That kinda sucked but oh well, there's always San Diego in July :D

It's probably just as well that I didn't make it back on Sunday b/c the $2 tables woulda been my death! As it was, I blew around $80 there in about 15 mins on Friday.

and finally some meme stuff )

Finally an intelligent reality tv show *cough*
Oh my god, I think I've found my calling!!! Who Wants to Be a Superhero??. Hahaha! What a brilliant idea! Just imagine what the not-winners are gonna be like!! This is the first reality tv show that I am looking forward to watching! :) If I lived in the US, I would SO apply for this show! heeeeeee!

I went to their MySpace entry and poking around their friends I found a hot Aquaman and the same guy as one of the Wonder Twins.

Happy Pi Day!!!

On this day, groups of people, such as maths or science based clubs, might gather to consider the role that the number π has played in their lives and to imagine the world without π. Me, I can't imagine a world without π or pie!! I love circles so much! Especially flaky pastry encrusted circles! Especially circles with fruity fillings! *drool* Also, without circles, we would not have boobies or cute bums or Hostess chocolate cupcakes that taste just right after sitting in the freezer for a few hours!
We also wouldn't have sexy math equations. I dunno about you, but I get excited when I see sexy math equations! So take some time out today and appreciate π however you see fit!

Spa Day
Oh my god, Spa Day yesterday with the Missa Panties was just incredible!

(this is a substitute for lack of spa pics, i forgot my camera, damn!)

We got massages. After, I was told that I need to take baths with epsom salts, drink more water and get a massage at least once a month to relieve my stress (you don't see me resisting! heh). Lunch in our robes after that! It was funny looking around a restaurant and seeing a bunch of chicks in their robes eating truffle soup and drinking red wine in a fancy looking restaurant. A few hours lounging in the hot tub and steam room and unsuccessfully attempting to get in the pool (next time pool first, hot things after) were the perfect way to prepare ourselves for the decadent chocolate-magma-die-with-a-smile-on-your face dessert that we had at Milestones after with Peter.

I got DC New Frontier #1 back from him!! Damn I am so excited to finally read this!! I'm just finishing up some old Alan Moore Swamp Thing first! Alsooo, I found this interesting article about Hinduism in Comics. It's kinda old (1990) but still a neat read if you read comics.

I just finished reading DC: The New Frontier: Volume Two yesterday. You know, I probably should have read Volume 1 first but I lent it out and couldn't wait for it. Oh my god this comic book is amazing. From the very 50s style artwork to the very solid writing, this comic is more than delicious than a piece of chocolate. Heck, it's a warm plate of penne ala vodka covered in freshly grated parmesan cheese. *drool*

DC Comics had very distinctive genres earlier on, superhero, sci-fi, horror, western, romance. Basically, whatever the trend was with the competitors, they'd hop on too (or start sometimes). New Frontier goes back and says heeey, how would the sci-fi characters have interacted with the superhero characters. So you get all your favorites like Flash, Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern, plus some of the rare characters (half of which I bet you've never heard of) such as the BlackHawks and Challengers of the Unknown and Adam Strange. Hiiiighly recommended is this comic book by me! Go buy it and kiss it and love it and stuff. I'll let you know once I get Volume One back if you should read them in the correct order.

My own comic collection consists mostly of superhero, horror, and romance comics with a spattering of western. After reading this title, I think I am going to have to hunt down more of the sci-fi titles that I've been trying to ignore til I finish the rest of my title runs off. *groan*
